The South Coast Air Basin (Basin) is a "serious" nonattainment area for the 2012 annual PM2.5 standard, with an attainment date of December 31, 2025. In March 2023, South Coast AQMD withdrew the previous plan addressing the standard to avoid potential disapproval of the plan by U.S. EPA. Staff subsequently developed a new plan that requests a 5-year extension and demonstrates attainment of the standard by December 31, 2030. The PM2.5 Plan was adopted on June 7, 2024 by the South Coast AQMD Governing Board. The draft versions of the PM2.5 Plan are available on the archive page.
