The AQ-SPEC program has acquired a number of commercially available "low-cost" air quality sensors. Please click on the image for information on a specific sensor as provided by the manufacturer.
General Description The SENSIT SPOD Ion XF-PID unit provides real-time volatile organic compounds (VOC) measurements with photoionization detection (PID, 0.1 to 30 ppm). It also provides environmental parameters such as temperature, relative humidity and wind speed/direction if an anemometer is equipped. Data can be visualized and retrieved via SENSIT’s web portal.
Principle of Operation The SENSIT SPOD sensor uses a 10.6 eV ultraviolet lamp to ionize the VOCs into positive and negative ions. The current produced by the ions is measured by the detector and is proportional to the concentration of VOC in the air sample. The sensors are calibrated at the factory using isobutylene.
