The AQ-SPEC program has acquired a number of commercially available "low-cost" air quality sensors. Please click on the image for information on a specific sensor as provided by the manufacturer.
General Description The PurpleAir PA-II-FLEX is an air quality monitoring device that provides real-time measurements of PM1.0, PM2.5 and PM10 mass concentrations, VOC index values and environmental parameters such as temperature and relative humidity. Data can be accessed and downloaded on the PurpleAir website. This webpage specifically is for the VOC sensor component of the PurpleAir PA-II FLEX. For particulate matter performance, please refer to our Criteria Pollutant version of this webpage.
Principle of Operation The PurpleAir PA-II-FLEX contains either a Bosch BEM680 or BME688 T/RH/VOC metal oxide sensor. VOC is detected by adsorption to the sensor’s metal oxide layer and the intensity of the signal should be proportional to the concentration of VOC. The raw sensor signal is converted to an index for air quality by the sensor’s algorithms.
