The AQ-SPEC program has acquired a number of commercially available "low-cost" air quality sensors. Please click on the image for information on a specific sensor as provided by the manufacturer.
General Description The PurpleAir PA-II-FLEX sensor is an air quality monitoring device that provides real-time measurements of PM1.0, PM2.5 and PM10 mass concentrations and environmental parameters such as temperature and relative humidity. Data can be accessed and downloaded on the PurpleAir website.
Principle of Operation The PurpleAir PA-II-FLEX sensors use dual Plantower PMS6003 laser particle counter, where laser beams detect particles by their reflectivity. These sensors count suspended particles in sizes of 0.3, 0.5, 1.0, 2.5 and 10 μm. These particle counts are processed by the sensor using a complex algorithm to calculate the PM1.0, PM2.5 and PM10 mass in μg/m3. The PMS6003 sensors come factory calibrated.
