The AQ-SPEC program has acquired a number of commercially available "low-cost" air quality sensors. Please click on the image for information on a specific sensor as provided by the manufacturer.
General Description The MetOne ES-405 Particulate Profiler is a near reference air quality sensor that provides real-time measurements of PM1.0, PM2.5 and PM10 mass concentrations. The sensor is equipped with a heated inlet to mitigate the effect of relative humidity. Data is retrieved via USB cable and the software provided by MetOne. External meteorological sensors can be connected to the sensor.
Principle of Operation The MetOne ES-405 sensor provides real-time particulate matter measurement through right angle laser light scattering. Sample is drawn into the detector chamber where it passes through an intense laser beam located at right angles to the flow and scatters light. The scattered light is collected onto a photodiode detector. The output of the detector is analyzed to calculate the number and size of the particles then mathematically processed to provide indicative mass concentrations.
