Lunar Outpost Canary-S

General Description

The Lunar Outpost Canary-S sensor provides real-time measurements of PM1.0, PM2.5 and PM10 mass concentrations. The sensor also provides temperature, relative humidity and pressure measurements. Up to three additional sensors can be added to the Canary-S units. Options include gases (i.e., ozone (O3), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), carbon monoxide (CO), hydrogen sulfide (H2S), sulfur dioxide (SO2) and VOC), wind speed and wind direction.

Principle of Operation

The Canary-S sensor uses dual Plantower PMS5003 laser particle counters, where laser beams detect particles going past by their reflectivity. These sensors count suspended particles in sizes of 0.3, 0.5, 1.0, 2.5, 5.0 and 10 µm. These particle counts are processed by the sensor using a complex algorithm to calculate the PM1.0, PM2.5 & PM10 mass in µg/m3. PMS5003 sensors come factory calibrated.
