To represent Riverside County
Riverside County Supervisor Marion Ashley
was sworn in today as the newest member of the South Coast Air Quality
Management District Governing Board.
Supervisor Ashley will represent the 25 cities in Riverside County on the
AQMD Board.
Ashley was elected to the Riverside County Board of Supervisors in 2002 to
represent the Fifth District and currently serves as the board’s vice
chairman. Before joining the county board, he served on the Riverside County
Planning Commission from 1973 until elected to the Eastern Municipal Water
District in 1992.
Supervisor Ashley has served as chairman of the Riverside County Board of
Supervisors, chair of the Western Riverside Council of Governments and the
Coachella Valley Association of Governments, and served as the county
representative to the Southern California Association of Governments.
In addition to the AQMD Board, Ashley will serve as Chairman of the Salton
Sea Authority and a member of the Riverside County 2010 U.S. Census Complete
County Steering Committee.
Born in Riverside County, his priorities include working to improve the
lives of the people he serves. Along with his family, Ashley donated
hundreds of acres of land in Riverside County to help create a permanent
nature preserve.
AQMD Board members serve four-year terms. Supervisor Ashley will fill the
unexpired term of the late Riverside County Supervisor Roy Wilson, who
passed away in August. The unexpired term ends Jan. 15, 2010.
AQMD is the air pollution control agency for Orange County and major
portions of Los Angeles, San Bernardino and Riverside counties.
