Public Input Sought for
2007 Air Quality Management Plan

Nov. 7, 2006

Three Evening Workshops Added

The South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD) is requesting feedback from the public on its draft 2007 Air Quality Management Plan, a comprehensive strategy to clean the air we breathe.

Three evening workshops – in San Bernardino, Newport Beach and Diamond
Bar – have been added to increase opportunities for public participation.

AQMD is seeking input from individuals, businesses, the public sector and nonprofits during public forums to be held throughout the next several weeks, prior to the proposed adoption of the plan by AQMD’s Governing Board early next year. At the workshops, community members will be asked to make suggestions and comments on how to clean up Southern California’s polluted air.

“With the community’s help, great strides can be made toward improving the quality of life for all of us in Southern California,” said AQMD Executive Officer Barry Wallerstein. “We are all affected by air quality, and everyone should feel compelled to attend a meeting to share opinions and comments to help us build a plan that achieves sustainable and positive changes in air quality now and for the future.”

Community members are strongly encouraged to participate in the meetings to share their ideas and comments. Key topics to be addressed in the workshops include:

  • Importance of key agency responsibility in controlling sources under their jurisdiction;

  • Identification and availability of adequate funding required to implement control strategy;

  • The need for public engagement and consumer choices as part of the solution to the air quality problem; and

  • Potential request for an extension to achieve the 8-hour ozone standard.
