The following information is intended to highlight specific aspects of the rule and serve as a guide for the allowance of Range Management and Controlled Burns by the South Coast Air Quality Management District (South Coast AQMD) for Fire Protection Agencies. What Must I Do Prior to Burning?
Open Burning for Range Management Projects (less than 10 acres), and Controlled Burns (less than 10 acres), or that produces less than one ton of particulate emissions:

Find out if the next day is a Burn Day by calling 909-396-3355. If the next day is a Burn Day, press 0, and leave a message for a Burn Authorization Number on the Burn Line prior to 4:00 p.m. the day before the burn.

Alternately a Burn Authorization Number can be obtained by calling 909-396-3403 prior to 4:00 p.m. the day before the burn.

Burning on a No Burn Day is not permitted.
Open Burning for Range Management Projects (greater than 10 acres), and Controlled Burns (greater than 10 acres) or that produce more than one ton of particulate emissions:

Obtain prior approval for projects greater than 10 acres or that will produce more than one ton of particulate matter emissions by submitting a Smoke Management Plan. We recommend that all Smoke Management Plans be submitted through the Prescribed Fire Information Reporting System (PFIRS).

Obtain approval from local Fire Protection Agency.

Once you receive approval for your Plan, find out if the next day is a Burn Day by calling 909-396-3355. If the next day is a Burn Day, press 0, and leave a message for a Burn Authorization Number on the Burn Line prior to 4:00 p.m. the day before the burn.

If burning on Sunday or Monday, call before 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.

Additional Information:
An Annual Post Burn Evaluation Report is required on of before January 31st of each calendar year.
