Hearing Board Activity

On July 12, 2016, the South Coast Air Quality Management District (South Coast AQMD) filed a Petition for an Order for Abatement (PDF) with the South Coast AQMD Hearing Board regarding Browning-Ferris Industries of California Inc, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Republic Services Inc dba Sunshine Canyon Landfill.

The South Coast AQMD Hearing Board held a series of public hearings on the proposed Order for Abatement between late August and early December 2016.  On December 15, 2016 the Hearing Board issued the Order for Abatement.  The Hearing Board subsequently Modified the Order for Abatement on March 1, 2017. 

The Hearing Board met again on Nov. 8-9, 2017 to hear a Status Report and Modification of the Order for Abatement (PDF) condition prohibiting the disposal of waste at the landfill between the hours of 6 am and 9 am weekdays and Saturdays.
