The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency periodically reviews and establishes health-based national air quality standards (also referred to as NAAQS) for ozone, particulate matter, and other criteria air pollutants guided by the Clean Air Act (CAA). The CAA requires areas designated as nonattainment for these standards to develop plans, known as State Implementation Plans (SIPs). SIPs are comprehensive plans that describe how an area will attain federal air quality standards. The main Air Quality Management Plan (AQMP) can be found here.
