Installation of a Gas Log Set

The following photos outline the process of converting your wood-burning fireplace to a new gas log set. Installations are often completed in less than one hour and should be done by a professional through one of AQMD’s participating retailers (PDF 40KB). Here’s what you can expect:

A traditional wood-burning fireplace filled with ash and soot.

The fireplace is cleaned in preparation for the installation of a gas log set.

A gas line is connected to the burn pan of the insert.

Sand is poured over the burn pan to evenly distribute the gas that flows from the gas line.

Embers that glow when heated are laid inside a bed of lava rocks for a realistic fireplace setting.

A frame is put in place to hold the gas log set.

Flames glow from the newly installed gas log set that has the same look and feel of a traditional fireplace.

*Note: Do not attempt to install your own gas log set insert. Talk to one of our participating retailers to schedule a professional installation.
