News: Rooftop solar panels move out to sea

July 2, 2009

its American debut at the Port of Long Beach. Although the
328 rooftop solar panels do not generate enough energy to
power the ship across the Pacific, it does supply auxiliary
power, allowing the massive car carrier to power down the
enormous diesel engines while in port.

News: Sun block for windshields helps reduce greenhouse
emissions
June
26, 2009
–
The California Air Resources Board adopted a regulation that
will require new cars sold in California, starting in 2012,
to have windows and windshields that reflect or absorb the
sun’s rays. The energy-efficient glass will cool a car’s
interior by 14 degrees even in direct sunlight. Cooler cars
require less air conditioning, which will eliminate nearly
700,000 tons of carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, from
entering the atmosphere over an eight-year period.
